Filipino Wins Best Director Award at London East Asia Film Festival 2021
“Whether the Weather is Fine (Kun Maupay Man It Panahon)” director Carlo Francisco Manatad bagged the Best Director award at the recently concluded London East Asia Film Festival (LEAFF).
The jury was chaired by Nick James, former editor of Sight & Sound, a British monthly film magazine published by British Film Institute (BFI). Other jurors were Hannah McGill, former artistic director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and Damon Wise, BFI Festival advisor.
Director Manatad, the youngest director with an entry to this year’s LEAFF, accepted his award via a video message.
Set against the backdrop of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, “Whether the Weather is Fine” was one of 33 films that participated in this year’s LEAFF and stars Daniel Padilla, Charo Santos-Concio and Rans Rifol.

The two Foreign Secretaries agreed to launch the PH-UK Enhanced Partnership and to work closely on defense cooperation, cyber security, green investments and fighting COVID.

The “Fiesta Filipinas: An Online Celebration of Philippine Festivals” project is a multi-format online event which will simulate the experience of a festival through a combination of live and pre-recorded videos and live workshops and activities. The project aims to introduce and showcase Philippine festivals, culture, and traditions to our global audience and invite them to the country when conditions are more favorable.
The project is organized by the Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Tourism, in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
