Philippine Embassy in London Coordinates Flight of Filipinos Evacuated from Afghanistan through the UK
London, 24 August - Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Antonio M. Lagdameo today sent off at the London Heathrow Airport a group of 22 Filipinos evacuated from Afghanistan to the UK on British military flights since last week. The group departed the UK this afternoon via a Philippine Airlines flight which is due to arrive in Manila on 25 August.
Ambassador Lagdameo joined the 22 Filipinos in thanking the UK for its invaluable help in the Philippine Government’s efforts to repatriate Filipinos from Afghanistan.
Philippine Volcanoes Rugby Team Pays Courtesy Call on Ambassador Lagdameo
Ambassador Antonio M. Lagdameo welcomed to Sentro Rizal London the Philippine Volcanoes Rugby Development Team, the only foreign team participating in the London International Rugby Sevens Tournament.
Congratulating the team for placing 3rd overall at the 7s tournament in Cheltenham, Ambassador Lagdameo presented the team with a Philippine flag and some Philippine items.
Ambassador Lagdameo expressed the Embassy’s support for the Philippine Volcanoes’ aim to raise the profile of the Philippines as a global force in the sport of rugby and recruit a large base of players who could feed national teams.
The Philippine Volcanoes won a Gold Medal at the SEA Games in the Philippines in 2019. Their goal is to get a medal finish at the Asian Games in 2022 and qualify for the World Cup of Sevens in 2022.

AMBASSADOR LAGDAMEO WELCOMES “PANDEMIC BATCH” OF FILIPINO CHEVENING SCHOLARS TO SENTRO RIZAL LONDON
Thirteen of the sixteen Filipino scholars who comprise the 2020-2021 cohort of the UK’s Chevening Scholarship program recently visited Sentro Rizal London and paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Antonio M. Lagdameo.
During their call, Ambassador Lagdameo exhorted the scholars to return to the Philippines after their studies in the UK and make sure to give back to their communities.
Calling themselves the “pandemic Chevening batch,” these students were chosen by the UK government to pursue further studies at UK universities for their potential to become leaders and opinion shapers. Foreign Service Officer II Ira Micheline R. Valdez is one of the scholars of the 2020-2021 Chevening cohort.
