Ambassador Evan Garcia briefs Filipino business professionals

on political and economic developments in the Philippines

London, 28 September 2016 - Ambassador Evan Garcia hosted a reception for around 50 Filipino business professionals in the United Kingdom at the Philippine Embassy in London last 27 September.

In his welcome remarks, the Philippine Ambassador encouraged guests to work with one another in promoting the Philippines and Filipino culture in the UK. He said that the Embassy is open and ready for possible collaborations with Filipino groups and individuals from various professions and sectors in this regard.

Ambassador Garcia also shared some good news about the Philippines, particularly the country’s robust economic growth. He noted that the Philippine economy grew by 7% in the second quarter of 2016 making the Philippines one of the fastest growing Asian economies for the said period. He added that tourism arrivals from the UK continue to increase with 14.27% growth during the first six months of the year.

The event was attended by architects, artists, bank executives, charted accountants, civil servants, fashion designers, food specialists, journalists, lawyers, management consultants, multinational company executives, NGO/charity workers, restaurateurs, postgraduate students, and other professionals.

The reception is part of the public engagement events of the Embassy. Such events are aimed at establishing and maintaining links with both Filipino and British communities from a wide range of fields including the academia, arts, business, culture, government, media, and religion. The reception and other events for Filipino business professionals are spearheaded by the Embassy’s Commercial Section – Philippine Trade and Investment Centre (PTIC), London. END
