LONDON 27 June 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in London recently launched the exhibit “Bugkós: Source Cultures in Diaspora Respond to the Rachel and Clare Tanner Collection” at Sentro Rizal London.
The exhibit, in collaboration with the Philippine Studies Programme at SOAS University of London, features a collection of vintage Philippine clothing and other artefacts which were acquired by Mr. David Tanner, a British national, and his family during their travels around the Philippines from 1975 to 1980, while Mr. Tanner was working for a British multinational corporation. Rachel and Clare, after whom the collection is named, are the Philippines-born daughters of Mr. Tanner and wife Jackie.
In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. hailed Mr. Tanner and family’s generosity in bequeathing their collection of Philippine artefacts to the Philippine Government, through the Embassy, for the next generations to appreciate and enjoy.
Aside from the Filipiniana treasures currently on display at Sentro Rizal London, the exhibit launch also featured important aspects of Philippine cultural heritage, such as the Pangalay dance of the Tausugs and the Ballangbang celebratory dance of the Igorots.
The exhibit is open to public viewing, Mondays to Fridays except holidays, at Sentro Rizal London, by appointment through This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. END
