LONDON 23 January 2019 — Ambassador to the United Kingdom Antonio M. Lagdameo handed over the chairmanship of the ASEAN London Committee (ALC) to High Commissioner of Singapore Foo Chi Hsia in a ceremony held during the ALC’s first meeting of the year and the third convened under the Philippines’ chairmanship held at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) on 23 January 2019.
During Ambassador Lagdameo’s chairmanship of the ALC, the Philippines successfully steered and coordinated various activities, such as the ASEAN Family Day held last 27 October 2018; the briefing given by the Chief Economist of Standard Chartered Bank on the latest economic developments in the United Kingdom and Europe and the risks to the outlook including from Brexit; and the briefing given by the UK Ministry of Defence led by The Rt. Hon. Earl Howe, Minister of State of Defence and Deputy Leader of the House of Lords, on its future defence engagement plans in Southeast Asia.
The hand over meeting also served as an opportunity for the ALC to formally meet with H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary General of ASEAN, who was in the United Kingdom for an official visit. END
