30 January 2019 LONDON—Ambassador Antonio M. Lagdameo received Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Prospero De Vera III and his team during the CHED delegation’s courtesy call on the Ambassador on 22 January.

Chairperson De Vera and his team were in London to attend the Education World Forum, the world’s largest annual gathering of education and skills ministers. The forum tackled the perennial question, “How do we prepare our young people for a future we are trying to predict?”

“Creativity, communication, and collaboration will be crucial in shaping relevant education policies that will prepare our students in confronting the challenges of the ‘real world,’” said Ambassador Lagdameo. “We can truly say that we are successful in our education agenda if we are able to produce innovative and empowered individuals who are capable of creating a positive impact.”

During the courtesy call, Chairperson De Vera updated the Ambassador on the latest developments in Philippine higher education, including the ongoing transnational education partnerships between Philippine and British universities.

Ambassador Lagdameo also shared with Chairman De Vera the Embassy’s initiatives to expand its network and forge stronger partnerships with various British and Irish higher education institutions.

Through its public diplomacy desk, the Embassy has actively reached out to British and Irish universities and higher education institutions as well as thousands of Filipino, British, and Irish students. In the past two years, the Embassy facilitated the turnover of a hefty grant to SOAS University of London to setup the university’s Philippine Studies Programme. It has also played a significant role in the establishment of the London Education and Research Network (LEARN). Last year, the Embassy launched its Campus Caravan Programme and has embarked on a massive survey of all available funding and opportunities for Filipinos who wish to study in the UK and Ireland across a wide spectrum of specialisations.
