06 July 2017 – The Filipino Muslim Association in the UK (PMA UK) celebrated the Eid'l Fitr or Hari Raya in London to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Antonio Lagdameo was invited as guest of honor at the annual event.
The celebration recognized outstanding members of the community who have supported the organization since its founding in 2009. Leaders of the group recalled that Ambassador Lagdameo was their first guest of honor for their first Eid celebration held eight years ago.
Ambassador Lagdameo expressed the Philippine Embassy's deepest sympathies to those whose families and loved ones have been affected by the ongoing crisis in Marawi City. He also expressed wishes for the speedy resolution of the conflict, while underlining solidarity with the Muslim community in condemnation of any and all acts of terrorism.
"It is up to each one of us Filipinos, whether at home or abroad, to help bring about change that would empower our people to rise above our predicaments. It is now up to all of us, descendants of heroes and heirs to a glorious legacy, to work together to build a stronger, more stable and more resilient republic where a more caring, more prosperous, and more inclusive community resides. Our ancestors have fought and won for all of us to build a nation. It is now our turn to care for it and keep it strong," Ambassador Lagdameo said.
PMAUK is a confederation of various regions or groups representing Muslim ethnic and cultural communities in Mindanao. It is one of the biggest Filipino community organizations in the UK and among the first groups to mobilize fundraising drive in aid of the victims of the Marawi siege.
