22 June 2017 – Ambassador Antonio Manuel R. Lagdameo discusses with Supreme Court Justice Noel G. Tijam (left) and Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II (right) the assistance of the Embassy to Filipinos in the United Kingdom especially during security alert situations.   Ambassador Lagdameo updated the officials on the assistance to nationals program of the Embassy in the light of recent security incidents and the Grenfell Tower fire in London as well as on UK developments.

 

The Ambassador welcomed at the Embassy Justice Tijam, Secretary Aguirre and the other members of the Philippine delegation who are in London to participate in the International Workshop on the Fair Treatment of Seafarers hosted by the International Maritime Organization, the International Transport Workers’ Federation and the Seafarers’ Rights International.   The workshop will be held at the IMO Headquarters on 23 June 2017.

 

Justice Tijam will be one of the panellists in the afternoon session on Guidelines on Fair  Treatment of Seafarers in the Event of a Maritime Accident.  He will join six other international law experts including Sir Kenneth Keith, former Judge of the International Court of Justice and Judge Tom Mensah, first President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.   Secretary Aguirre would make an intervention on the Philippine laws and regulations to protect and promote the welfare of Filipino seafarers especially those in distress such as marine accidents and abandonment.

 

The other members of the Philippine Delegation to the workshop are DOJ Undersecretary Erickson Balmes, Undersecretary Claro A. Arellano,  Maria Cecilia Tijam, Judicial Staff Head of Justice Tijam, Mr. Gilberto Asuque, Permanent Representative to the IMO and Atty. Jabeth Sena Jepath Dacanay. END
