London, 23 April 2024 – With the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the Philippine Embassy in London participated in the ASEAN Film Festival 2024 by screening the film, “Water Lemon” by Director Lemuel Lorca at the Brunei Gallery at SOAS University of London.

The ASEAN London Committee (ALC), in partnership with SOAS University of London, is showcasing the best of Southeast Asian cinema for the public to enjoy from 22 to 27 April 2024.

In her welcome remarks, Chargé d’ Affaires of the Philippine Embassy in London Ms. Rhenita B. Rodriguez spoke about the power of cinema and how it could transport audiences to experience the sights, sounds, languages, and culture of Southeast Asia. She also introduced the Filipino film, “Water Lemon”, set in Mauban, Quezon, which features modern Filipino society and its relationship with technology, labor, and migration while highlighting Filipino values such as humor, filial obligation, the spirit of community, and the importance of family.

The film was very well-received by the audience which was composed of members of the diplomatic corps, British officials, members of the Filipino community, and members of the general public such as students and cinema lovers. END
