LONDON, 31 August 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in London led the commemoration of Buwan ng Wika among the Filipino community in the United Kingdom, with a “Sabayang Pagbigkas ng Tula” at Sentro Rizal London on 31 August 2023.

Filipino poems, namely, “Wikang Pambansa, Wikang Panlahat” (by Gerlie L. Palmenco) and “Tula Para sa Buwan ng Wika” (by Sophia Lorrin Cruz) were recited in unison by the participants who were divided into four groups.

Mr. Ric Patriarca, founder and head of London Filipino Centre (LFC)-CIC, discussed the features and guidelines of “sabayang pagbigkas” before the activity.

In her opening remarks, Chargé d’Affaires Rhenita B. Rodriguez underscored the importance of celebrating Buwan ng Wika (Filipino Language Month) every August because language is part of our cultural identity and reflects who we are as a people.

The program, which concluded with a salo-salo of Filipino food, was conducted in partnership with LFC-CIC, a Filipino community group which conducts classes and training sessions on Filipino language and culture for Filipinos, Filipino-British and other foreign nationals.END
