 Senator Grace Poe met with around 30 leaders of the Filipino community in the UK during her recent visit to London.

During the meeting, the Senator expressed her commitment to improving the lives of the vulnerable members of society, especially children and the indigent. The Senator also briefed the Filipino community leaders on developments in the Philippines.

Senator Poe acknowledged the importance of an efficient transportation system and noted the correlation of transportation to the quality of life and financial well-being of commuters. The Senator also cited the importance of a reliable internet and broadband infrastructure, especially in view of the Philippines’ position as one of the top BPO providers worldwide. The Senator also discussed salient provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 11659 which amends the Public Service Act.

During the open forum, among the matters discussed were the condition of Filipino healthcare workers in the United Kingdom, as well as healthcare benefits for OFWs wishing to retire in the Philippines.

Senator Poe expressed her appreciation to the attendees and to the Embassy and reiterated her thanks to the thousands of OFWs, especially healthcare workers, working abroad and contributing to the growth of the Philippine economy. END
